HRiA Conference 2020 – Cancelled

It is with regret that, due to Covid-19, the National Executive has decided that we need to cancel the 15th National Conference and Gardens Tour “Beyond the Garden Fence” in Gippsland, Victoria in early November 2020.

We are hopeful that we will be able to reschedule the planned Conference and Gardens Tour to November 2021.

All Conference and Gardens Tour payments by members will be refunded in full. Our treasurer will be contacting all those who have registered regarding their refunds.

The Conference will be based in Warragul which is situated in West Gippsland Victoria, just over 100 kilometres south-east of Melbourne. The ideal soil and good rainfall makes it an ideal place for very impressive large gardens including many heritage roses. There is an excellent train service from Melbourne to Warragul.

The Biennial Conference – Friday 6th November

Lardner Park, near Warragul has been selected as the Conference Venue. Registrations will be available 4-5pm, followed by “meet and greet”, finger food and drinks. The “Coordinators Meeting” will take place later in the evening.

Saturday 7th November There will be 3 renowned speakers including our Keynote speaker Doctor Malcolm Manners from Florida, USA.

There will also be a speaker at the Gala Dinner.

The Garden Tour – Sunday 8th to Wednesday 11th November

A taste of some of the 10 gardens we will be visiting is the spectacular Morwell Centenary Rose Garden, a parkland over 2 hectares filled with roses and described as a perfumed wonderland. In 2009 this garden was presented with an Award of Garden Excellence by the World Federation of Rose Societies, only the second rose garden in Australia to be honoured with this prestigious award at that time. Marysville, Melbourne and Mornington Penninsula Heritage Rose Groups planted a Memorial Rose Garden after the massive fires in February 2009. We will also revisit the Mornington Peninsula to visit a splendid Heritage Rose Garden. The finale will be the amazing garden of well known rosarian John Nieuwesteeg, we promise you this will be a grand affair.

More about the exciting speakers and gardens will be available in the Summer Journal together with the registration forms.

Please join us on what promises to be a different and exciting conference.
