Rumsey Rose Garden, Parramatta Park, SydneyThis garden has a large range of Heritage Roses and was opened in 1995. Roy and Heather Rumsey, when they closed their nursery, donated 2 of every heritage rose in their stock to the Sydney Group of Heritage Roses with the proviso that a garden accessible to the public was found for the roses. This garden was designed by our member Judy Andrews and the original planting was done by the Sydney Group of Heritage Roses. Sydney Group Heritage Roses still have working bees at this garden. Victoria State Rose Garden
The Victoria State Rose Garden was originally opened in 1986 in the shape of a Tudor rose with five petals. Each petal has 25 beds of modern roses, one cultivar to each bed separated by five avenues of standard roses. Each petal is surrounded by 18 festoons of climbing and rambling roses and 18 weeping standards. 1997 saw the first Heritage border set up on the fence line between the garden and the Mansion and this was expanded in 2000. There are now 262 heritage species and cultivars in the Heritage Border with a further 75 heritage cultivars in the rest of the garden. This, we believe, is one of the best heritage collections in Australia.
